Chief Academic Officer

Dr. Linda Scherr serves as the Chief Academic Officer at the New Jersey Council of County Colleges, where she supports the work of the Trustees, Presidents, and College staff to provide high-quality, innovative academic programs that expand access to higher education, address equity gaps, and increase adult engagement. Dr. Scherr collaborates with academic leaders at community colleges across the state on academic initiatives including dual enrollment programs, general education, credit for prior learning, and grants.

Before joining the Council, Dr. Scherr served as the Vice President for Academic Affairs (2019-2024) and Dean of Arts and Sciences (2016-2019) at Middlesex College (NJ). Prior to Middlesex, she worked at Mercer County Community College for 18 years as a faculty member in History, Dean for Instructional Effectiveness, and Acting Dean for the Division of Math, Science, and Health Professions. Dr. Scherr earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and Near Eastern Studies from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in Ancient History at the University of Pennsylvania.
