Matthew Nazzaro

Matthew Nazzaro is a 2004 graduate of UCNJ Union College of Union County, NJ (then Union County College) with a degree in Criminal Justice. Mr. Nazzaro exemplifies the institution’s emphasis on service, leadership, and community impact. Raised in Cranford, which is home to one of UCNJ’s campuses, Mr. Nazzaro made the intentional choice to begin his higher education locally. In the aftermath of September 11, 2001, he felt a profound call to serve his community, launching what would become a lifelong commitment to public service. He began as a volunteer with the Cranford First Aid Squad and, while pursuing his degree, balanced the demands of full-time work as both an EMT and a dispatcher. In 2003, Mr. Nazzaro joined the Cranford Police Department, a milestone he credits in part to the strong academic foundation and opportunities provided by UCNJ. Demonstrating a dedication to professional growth, he went on to earn both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in public administration from Kean University. In 2024, Mr. Nazzaro was appointed Chief of Police in Cranford, a testament to his leadership, integrity, and decades of service. In 2025, he was appointed to the UCNJ Board of Governors, where he serves on the Educational Planning and Policy Committee and the Buildings and Grounds Committee. Chief Nazzaro’s career reflects unwavering dedication to public service, continued professional excellence, and a lasting commitment to UCNJ.
