NJ Pathways Happening: Ribbon Cutting Launches NJ Film Academy at Brookdale Community College

Brookdale Community College hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the launch of the New Jersey Film Academy on December 4, 2024, at its Lincroft campus. This event marked a significant milestone in New Jersey’s workforce development as the state prepares to launch comprehensive training programs in the entertainment industry in January 2025.

As a partner of the NJ Pathway’s Center of Workforce Innovation for Film & Television Production, Brookdale will offer specialized training tracks in On Set Production, Production Office and Accounting, and Hair, Makeup, and Wardrobe. All tracks include an introductory course, Script to Screen: Introduction to the Entertainment Industry, which offers students hands-on learning and internship opportunities.

The NJ Film Academy is a statewide collaborative effort involving 13 community colleges that have expressed intent to partner, ensuring accessible, high-quality training for aspiring filmmakers, actors, and production professionals throughout the state. The academy also provides scholarships and resources through its non-profit organization to support students.

“This initiative brings opportunities to New Jersey that were once only available in New York or California,” said Brookdale Graduate Trustee Jean Guerdy Paul. With Netflix expanding into New Jersey, the academy will provide students with the credentials and skills needed to succeed in a thriving local industry.
