As a NJ Pathways pilot program this year, Atlantic Cape Community College (ACCC) and Rowan College of South Jersey (RCSJ) joined together to offer two sessions of “Strategies for Teaching Adult Learners.” The 8-week online course aims to equip subject matter experts with the foundational knowledge required to excel as instructors. The course is designed for professionals new to teaching adults or those considering it as a new employment opportunity.

The course covered topics including: (1) What Makes a Successful Trainer, (2) Understanding Your Learning Style, (3) Adult Learning Theory: Concepts and Principles, (4) Effective Communication Skills for Trainers I, (5) Effective Communication Skills for Trainers II, (6) Designing Effective Training Programs, and (7) Presentation Strategies and Techniques.

The course began on Monday, April 22, and will conclude on June 14. Twenty-seven participants from across the state registered for this no-cost opportunity. The participants range from new instructors, instructors considering teaching adults, and administrators.
