NJ Pathways Happening: CCM Hosts Successful 3rd Annual Data Science Night, Highlighting Collaboration and Innovation

County College of Morris

The County College of Morris (CCM) held its 3rd Annual Data Science Night on November 14, 2024. The event was well attended with over 100 participants ranging from local area high school students who received STEM professional development hours required by their high schools to current students enrolled in CCM data science programs, including adult learners who were interested in upskilling. The event provided valuable learning opportunities in R statistical programming, Python, Tableau, Excel, and more. There were three concurrent sessions, an alumni panel, and talks from industry professionals.

The event aimed to increase engagement, enrollment, and retention in CCM’s Data Science programs, aligning with the New Jersey Council of County College’s Opportunity Agenda’s four pillars. The evening served as a way for CCM to continue to build strong partnerships through the NJ Pathways Initiative, which includes alliances and articulation agreements with four-year universities. Three universities—Ramapo College, NJIT, and Rutgers—participated in the event, further strengthening connections for students pursuing advanced data science degrees.

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with the event receiving a rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars. The successful turnout and engagement reflect the growing interest in data science careers and the collaborative efforts between community colleges, industry leaders, and four-year colleges and universities.
